On September 19th 1913 a dreadful accident occurred on the Grasse to Cagnes/Antibes line on a viaduct near Villeneuve-Loubet. 18 passengers, mostly soldiers, were killed and a further 25 injured. An electric tram locomotive left the track on the viaduct and a number of carriages fell into the ravine below. This newspaper cutting from the following day shows the carriages in the ravine and rescuers carrying away the injured. Part of the train can be seen still perched on the edge of the viaduct.
