The House Sale
Wednesday 5 July 2006 at The Old Rectory, Great Bealings, Nr
The sale of the contents of The Old Rectory Great Bealings, near
Woodbridge raised more than £600,000 on July 5. The Old Rectory was
the former home of Lord Belstead, a Conservative minister and Leader
of the House of Lords under Margaret Thatcher's government. Lord Belstead was also Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk and had a great
attachment to the Suffolk countryside and it was his collection of
landscape paintings by East Anglian artist, Edward Seago, that
proved particularly desirable on the day. All fourteen Seagos
exceded their original estimates but the artists view of 'Barges at
Pin Mill' on the East Anglian coast raised £37,200 against an
estimate of £20,000 - £30,000.
